Suzanne’s St Annes Beef

Pre-heat the oven to140 degs 

Suzanne is a wonderful member of our team here at Mrs Darlington's, say hello to her if she answers the phone the next time you call us. This easy, one pot recipe is one of her family favourites.

2lb/900g braising steak - cubed

3 tbspn sunflower oil

1oz/28g butter

1.5 tbspn plain flour

1 pint / 20 fl oz hot beef stock

3 tbspn Worcester sauce

1 jar of Mrs Darlington's Redcurrant Jelly

8 oz 225g button mushrooms, washed and left whole




In a heat resistant casserole dish, fry the beef in the sunflower oil and butter until brown. Sprinkle the plain flour over the beef, stir well and fry for a further minute. Add the hot beef stock, stirring continuously. Add all the remaining ingredients. Cover with a lid and pop in the oven for 4 hours. Serve with creamy mashed potatoes and green vegetables.

If you don't have any potatoes to hand, this dish is great served on a bed of rice. Alternatively pop on a puff pastry lid to make a scrumptious pie.
